Starwest Botanicals Organic Ginger Root Cut & Sifted — certified organic Zingiber officinale root in a versatile cut and sifted form, ideal for brewing herbal teas, decoctions, infusions, syrups, and tinctures, preserving the full natural potency of the root in its most traditional whole-herb format. USDA Organic, Kosher certified. 453.6g (1 lb).
Why
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is one of the most widely used and extensively researched medicinal plants in the world, with a history spanning thousands of years across Asian, Ayurvedic, and traditional Western herbal medicine. The cut and sifted form preserves the root in larger pieces than powder — the preferred choice for herbal teas and decoctions (simmering extracts a rich, warming brew with a more robust and complex flavour than powder), infusions and syrups, tinctures, and culinary use in soups, broths, and slow-cooked dishes. The bioactive compounds responsible for ginger’s health benefits are gingerols (predominant in fresh root) and shogaols (formed during drying, more potent than gingerols), along with a broad spectrum of monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, and phenolic antioxidants. These support digestive health, nausea relief, anti-inflammatory activity, and circulatory warmth. USDA Organic certified by QAI, Kosher certified by Kosher Certification Services. Origin: China.
Key Benefits
- Cut & sifted form — ideal for teas, decoctions, infusions, syrups, and tinctures
- Supports digestive health — stimulates digestive enzymes and bile, supports gastric motility, relieves bloating and indigestion
- Nausea relief — clinically studied for motion sickness, morning sickness, and post-operative nausea
- Anti-inflammatory support — gingerols and shogaols inhibit COX-1, COX-2, and 5-LOX inflammatory pathways
- Circulatory warmth — a traditional warming herb to support healthy blood flow
- USDA Organic (certified by QAI) | Kosher certified
- 453.6g (1 lb) — bulk economy size for regular herbal tea and culinary use
Formula Highlights
- Gingerols — the primary bioactive compounds in dried ginger root; support digestive enzyme activity, gastric motility, and anti-nausea effects; also have anti-inflammatory properties via COX and LOX pathway inhibition
- Shogaols — formed from gingerols during the drying process; more potent than gingerols in anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity; contribute to ginger’s warming and circulatory-stimulating properties
- Monoterpenes & Sesquiterpenes (including zingiberene, bisabolene) — the aromatic volatile compounds responsible for ginger’s characteristic flavour and aroma; contribute additional anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity

Suggested Use
As a herbal tea: Add 1–2 teaspoons of cut ginger root to 250–500ml of cold water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10–15 minutes. Strain and serve. Sweeten with honey if desired, or add lemon juice. For a lighter infusion, steep in boiling water for 5–10 minutes without simmering. As a dietary supplement: ⅛ teaspoon (approximately 250mg) daily. In cooking: Add directly to soups, broths, curries, and slow-cooked dishes. Remove pieces before serving or leave in for a more intense flavour.
